Before the tools listed in this site were developed, a seminar on the nuances of the Khasi language was conducted to discuss and debate the need to standardize the Khasi language primarily for the  purpose of writing, academic and leisure, and for communication purposes. A  National Seminar on "Towards Standardizing Khasi for Computational Purposes"  was Organised by the Department of Computer Science, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong & the Department of Khasi, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong In Association with The Department of Arts and Culture Government of Meghalaya on 28-29 October 2014, at St. Anthony’s College.


It saw the coming together of many brilliant minds from various institutions (IIT Bombay, JNU, DU, IIIT Hyderabad,  Hyderabad University, NEHU, and others) at level that has never been done before in this area of study and in the state.


Shri P. Barkos Oflyn Warjri, then Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya graced the programme as the Chief Guest. Smt. M. W. Nongbri, Director, Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya was the Guest of Honour. The invitees attending the programme include resource persons, linguists, research scholars, experts and professionals from the field of Linguistics and Computer Science currently working or teaching in reputed universities and institutions in the state and in the country.
